The Columbia Valley is nestled between the Purcell and the Selkirk mountain ranges on the western slopes of the Rocky Mountains. Arrival by air into the region is either through Cranbrook International Airport, or through Calgary Airport. Many visitors arrive in Calgary and enjoy the 3 ½ hour drive through the Rocky Mountains to the Valley. The Columbia Valley includes 9 courses at 5 resorts, all within about a 1 ½ hour drive of each other. There are lots of accommodation choices, so you can settle into one, and play as much as you like. Don’t forget the long days in the summer, so its easy to play 36 a day.
Radium Resort boasts 36-holes of outstanding golf, in a majestic mountain setting near the vast Columbia Valley Wetlands. The shorter and sportier Resort Course, built in 1957, offers a host of amazing vistas and unique golf holes on a rugged, mountainside site. The Springs Course, a Les Furber design that opened in 1988, skirts the Columbia Valley Wetlands and features an unforgettable finish along the bluff. In fact, the tantalizing 17th, a short par-3 over a chasm, could make a strong case as the best par-3 in the region.
Eagle Ranch Golf Resort has evolved into one of the most satisfying golf experiences in the entire country. The thrilling up-and-down layout, designed by Bill Robinson, expertly incorporates deep ravines, hoodoos and exposed bluffs. It is also consistently recognized as one of the best conditioned golf courses in Canada.
Located in a spectacular alpine setting at Panorama Mountain Village, Greywolf is the kind of course that just wins people over. Recognized by Golf Digest as one of the Top-100 Courses in the World Outside of the United States, Greywolf is about as impressive as mountain golf gets. Designed by Canadian architect Doug Carrick, Greywolf features many holes that will be seared in your memory bank for a long time. The dynamite collection of par-3s,
capped by the diabolical Cliffhanger hole, is, unquestionably, one of the best in the world.
Thirty-six holes of spectacular Golf help make Copper Point Golf Club a must visit. Both courses at Copper Point are outstanding examples of how good golf can be when architects let the design complement the terrain they’re building on and accentuate its natural beauty. The new Ridge Course, which opened just last year, is a ‘Masters-style’ course. It’s comprised of challenging, full length par-3 and 4 holes and plays to a par 62, taking less time to complete than the championship Copper Point Course.
The Windermere Valley Golf Course is the perfect place for you if you’re interested in playing a courses that values shot-making. The course, which plays to a par of 66, is like a breath of fresh air for golfers who get tired of lengthy rounds. The greens are among the best conditioned and challenging in the region.
With 45 holes of golf – all nestled between the stunning Purcell and Rocky Mountain ranges – Fairmont Hot Springs is one of Canada’s largest golf resorts. The facility includes two championship length courses – Riverside and Mountainside – and the Par 3 Creekside course. “A river runs through it” truly describes the spectacular Riverside course, which is located near the headwaters of the mighty Columbia River. The Mountainside course has been satisfying guests for over 40 years. As one of the original golf courses in the valley, Mountainside has been the proud recipient of numerous accolades and awards.
